Alys Mayes
Alys (pronounced ‘Alice’) has been practicing as a Clinical Psychologist for more than 15 years. She has Masters qualifications in Clinical Psychology and Family Therapy. Alys is a member of Australian Psychological Society (APS), Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and College of Clinical Psychologists.
Her professional background includes: Health Psychology (Barwon Health Cancer Services and Palliative Care), Perinatal Mental Health (Raphael Services SJOG), Adult Mental Health (Ballarat Health Services) and Family Therapy.
As a Psychologist, Alys helps clients to understand their experience – both past and present and the relationship between early events and current patterns.
She works to assist people to change difficult thoughts-feelings-behaviours related to a range of stressors. People may be worried or anxious, sad or depressed, impacted by trauma, struggling with their work or relationships or impacted by a major life event, such as the birth of a baby or a change in their health.
Alys supports people to make lasting change through a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Psychosensory Therapy/Body-based Therapy, Systemic/Family Therapies and Mindfulness. Her practice is informed by evidence-based research.
